Major hardware crypto wallet providers Ledger and Trezor have unveiled their latest hardware wallets for 2025, setting new standards in self-custody security and user experience. Paris-based Ledger introduced the Ledger Nano Gen5, branding all its devices now as “Ledger signers” rather than hardware wallets. This updated device features a larger screen for clearer transaction signing, supports the Ledger Recovery Key released in June, and maintains Bluetooth connectivity. Priced at $179 in the US and 179 euros in Europe, the Nano Gen5 focuses on an improved, intuitive interface inspired by Apple design legends, including iPod creator Tony Fadell and icon designer Susan Kare.
Meanwhile, Prague-based Trezor launched the Safe 7, its first quantum-ready hardware wallet, equipped with a dual secure element setup combining the auditable TROPIC01 chip and an NDA-free EAL6+ secondary element. The Safe 7 stands out as Trezor’s first model to offer wireless Bluetooth connectivity and wireless charging, priced at 249 euros. Its quantum readiness means the device is equipped to receive future post-quantum cryptographic updates, aiming to safeguard assets well into the era of quantum computing.
Both Ledger and Trezor emphasize ongoing support for their older devices, with no plans to immediately phase them out. Trezor continues to provide security updates across its wallet range, while Ledger reassures users that older hardware remains functional though there are practical limits to supporting legacy features.
These advancements highlight Ledger and Trezor’s commitment to secure, user-friendly self-custody solutions that evolve with technological progress and emerging threats, providing crypto holders with flexible and future-proof tools.
