Leading hardware wallet manufacturers Ledger and Trezor have launched their latest models for 2025, elevating the standard for self-custody crypto security with innovative features and design improvements. Paris-based Ledger introduced the Ledger Nano Gen5, a device that marks a strategic shift by rebranding its products as “Ledger signers.” This new wallet boasts a larger screen for clearer transaction verification, supports Bluetooth connectivity, and incorporates the recently launched Ledger Recovery Key, all priced at $179 in the US.
Designed with Apple-inspired aesthetics and crafted with input from iPod creator Tony Fadell and designer Susan Kare, the Nano Gen5 aims to deliver a more intuitive and secure user experience. Additionally, Ledger updated its Ledger Live app to Ledger Wallet and unveiled Ledger Multisig to tackle multisignature blind signing vulnerabilities.
Meanwhile, Trezor from Prague launched the Safe 7, its first quantum-ready hardware wallet. Featuring dual secure elements—Tropic Square’s auditable TROPIC01 chip coupled with an NDA-free EAL6+ secondary chip—the Safe 7 also introduces Bluetooth and wireless charging capabilities, making it the first Trezor device to connect wirelessly with iPhones and other devices. Priced at 249 euros, this device is built to accommodate post-quantum cryptographic updates, future-proofing users against upcoming quantum computing threats.
While both companies emphasize innovation, they continue supporting their legacy devices with security updates and ongoing enhancements, ensuring users are not forced to upgrade prematurely. Trezor COO Danny Sanders reassures that all past hardware wallets remain fully supported, and Ledger echoes this commitment, stating that they maintain updates on older models as long as feasible.
These releases reaffirm Ledger and Trezor’s dedication to leading the way in hardware wallet technology, blending cutting-edge security, usability, and forward-looking readiness in the evolving crypto landscape.
